"What do we do next year to top that?" This was the combined thinking of the Taverners committee after another wonderful sports night at the Kingston Hotel in Richmond recently.
More than 80 Taverners and their friends packed into the hotel's dining room to wine and dine and be entertained by two of the most informed commentators on sport, John Harms and Gideon Haigh.
For over an hour, these two regulars on ABCTV's popular Sunday morning sports show The Offsiders expertly fielded many audience questions on a wide range of sports but, of course, largely about football and cricket.
There was no respite for John and Gideon until master of ceremonies Kevin Carroll, occasionally plagiarising Q&A's Tony Jones with "I'll take that as a comment!", finally called it a night.
The committee is in no doubt that this most enjoyable evening will be repeated next year following the success of the past two Kingston nights. And, yes ... members can be assured 2013 will be just as memorable.
