MAACA players and supporters came out in large numbers despite the heatwave conditions on Monday 11 March, at Moorleigh Community Village Reserve, East Bentleigh.

For the first time in MAACA's 9 season history, Division 3 clubs Brunswick and Maiden Gully Marists (from Bendigo) put on 2 exhibition games of 10 over Tonk, modified cricket. This division was established to cater for players with more challenging intellectual and associated disabilities, to provide them with an accessible and rewarding cricket experience, adaptable to a wide range of abilities.

Congratulations to Brunswick's Div. 3 coach, Stephen Mead
On 15th March, Stephen was awarded the 2023/24 Community Coach of the Year during a Cricket Victoria Awards Night at the Citipower Centre. It is a great honour to win this award for

-
A coach who exemplifies coaching The Australian Way. Someone who has gone out of their way to make sure that participants are supported to develop both their skills and a lifelong love of cricket.

This is thoroughly deserved and reflects Stephen's passion and dedication to provide the best possible cricket experience for his players at Brunswick CC.

The MAACA Div.2 Grand Final between Maiden Gully Marists and Seaford Tigers started off the day at 9am. It was a great contest with Maiden Gully making 6/129 in their 20 overs. In reply Seaford Tigers fell just 12 runs shy on 9/117. The Kevin O'Byrne Man of the Match was awarded to Lachlan Mitchell of Seaford for his 42 n.o. and 1/10 with the ball.

Fantastic to see the Lions go that one step further after being runners up in last year's Grand Final.
The MAACA Division 1 Grand Final
Division 1 and 2 are the Top Tiers of MAACA and provide a strong pathway for players to try out for the Victorian Vikings (ID) team. Currently 14 of the 16 Vikings player squad play in the MAACA.

Seddon took on defending champions Williamstown, in a true David v Goliath challenge for their first year in the MAACA competition. Williamstown boasted 7 Victorian Vikings State players in their line up.

Sent into bat, the Seddon Dockers intent was to be aggressive. Williamstown's bowlers were not phased and their accuracy paid dividends. Seddon fell into deep trouble, losing 4 for 0 to be 7/58. To their credit, the Dockers toughed out the 20 overs to finish on 9/85 and Damien Clarke top scoried with 28. Jeremy Curtis was the pick of the Williamstown bowlers with 3/12 off 3 overs.

Williamstown lost an early wicket in reply and to Seddon's credit, they needed 14.4 overs to pass the modest total, 3 wickets down. Lukas Woodhouse was in great touch, till he was caught at deep square leg for 29. Top scorer was Jeremy Curtis 30 n.o., which earned him the Bill Stafford Man of the Match medal.

The game was heated in moments but in the end both teams showed great respect for each other. Congratulations again goes to Williamstown CC. MAACA Division 1 Premiers.
