A Canberra man will be supporting Australia in person at the Lord’s Ashes Test match in July after winning first prize in the Lord’s Taverners national raffle.
A ticket bought by Mr Jeff Gallagher, who has a physical disability, was drawn out first from almost 30,000 other tickets. The prize includes tickets for two people to each day of the Lord’s Test and return business class flights to London courtesy of Etihad Airways.
The prize has been presented to Mr Gallagher at Manuka Oval by representatives from the Lord’s Taverners ACT, Cricket ACT and Etihad Airways.
“On behalf of the Lord’s Taverners nationally, I warmly congratulate Jeff on winning a trip to Lord’s,” said the President of the Lord’s Taverners ACT, Ric Smith.
“The challenges that Jeff faces makes this a story which typifies what the Lord’s Taverners is all about – helping young, disadvantaged people.”
Mr Gallagher said: “I am delighted and can’t wait to watch the Aussies beat England at the home of cricket.
“I would like to thank the Lord’s Taverners and Etihad Airways for their generosity. It promises to be a great thrill and I’m sure that I will have a terrific time.”
Proceeds from the raffle go to Lord’s Taverners’ initiatives which fund sporting facilities, equipment and opportunities for other underprivileged and disadvantaged young people.
Since the Lord’s Taverners was established in Australia in 1982, the organisation has raised and disbursed more than $10 million in cash and in kind.
